Oh hey there! I’m Katy!

A potter and Pittsburgh native who specializes in wheel-thrown, carved porcelain. My energy is focused on creating simple, elegant art as your home decor and kitchenware. 

I’ve recently expanded to include ceramic workshops at my studio in the Southside of Pittsburgh. You’ll leave our 2 ½ hour long workshop with the title of ceramic artist and some beautiful new pottery, including ceramic earrings, bud vases and candleholders. The offerings change each month and are great for everyone from beginner to advanced-level craftiness!

Porcelain is moody BUT these 3 things help make it less moody when handbuilding with it ⬇️ 1. Don’t overwork it - Porcelain clay is delicate, and it has a memory! So handle it with care, as it can become prone to cracking if pushed too far when wet. 2. Never let it dry out - Porcelain hardens fast and becomes unforgiving, so keep it moist until you’re ready to form it. 3. Clean your tools & hands - Even tiny bits of dirt or old clay can ruin porcelain’s pure finish, so clean your tools and hands throughout your process to keep it tidy! This is the most asked question at every market! ⬇️ How do you make it look triangular? My triangular forms are thrown on the wheel without a base. Then I dart the forms, add a base, add handles, then carve my designs! Yes, it is a long process and yes it does take a lot of time BUT I love the process and I love how it slows down time. It’s a good thing! Not everything has to be instant, youno?!
