Katy Lynn Pottery: Where Art, Plants, and Community Meet

Clay has a natural way of grounding us in so many ways! As a young artist, I found the clay medium as tactile, endlessly creative, and FUN.

When I began Katy Lynn Pottery and created my studio in Pittsburgh’s Southside, it was with the thought that every piece should tell a story.

Whether you’re here to shape the clay yourself, snag a one-of-a-kind piece, or simply lose yourself in the craft, you’ve landed where your pottery story begins!

Why I Create & Teach

I’ve been working with clay since middle school, but my journey as an artist and educator goes way beyond the studio.

My love of pottery took me from teaching in Harrisburg PA, to educating students in Yangon, Myanmar, to refining my craft in international residencies in Denmark and China.

My work is deeply influenced by the places I’ve been and the textures of daily life that caught my eye in southeast Asia and Europe.

The lush tropical plants, ornate architecture, places of worship, and rhythms of daily life, are deep sources of inspiration.

Now, back home in Pittsburgh, I channel that inspiration into crafting and teaching pottery—capturing movement, embracing exploration, and celebrating beauty in the tiniest details.

Let’s Create Together

Pottery is for everyone. Whether you're looking for a creative escape, a new skill, or just a beautiful handmade piece to add to your home, I’m here to guide you.

You can:

  • Get your hands in the clay at one of my workshops (no experience needed!)

  • Bring a little artistry home with functional, handmade pieces crafted with care.

  • Gift something truly special with pottery that’s made with intention and designed to be used and loved.

  • Have fun creating with your friends for a fun night out, private parties are welcome!

But What about the Plants??

Behind every great pot is a plant waiting for a home. And I’m lucky to have an amazing partner who knows allll about the plants!

Derek’s love for propagation started with a tiny raised bed in Pittsburgh and quickly grew into a home filled with thriving (and sometimes not-so-thriving) plants.

Together, we’ve created a space where handmade pottery and plants come together as a reminder that creativity and growth go hand in hand.

We love being known as the potter and plant enthusiast but we’re also partners in life and creativity. Derek and I tied the knot in our dream wedding in 2023, then welcomed our daughter into our lives in 2024.

As the cliche goes, she’s growing like a weed! Which I guess is to be expected as she’s surrounded by the warmth of clay-covered hands and the small jungle of plants filling our home.

While our family has grown, so has KLP, and we can’t wait to keep creating alongside you.
